How it works
One minute is long enough to hold a plank, run a box-breathing round (four seconds in, hold, four out, hold, repeated), or rehearse a 60-second elevator pitch out loud. It's short enough that the countdown itself doesn't become a distraction — you start it and the task is usually over before you think to check the time.
For a plank or any static hold, break the minute into 15-second checkpoints in your head rather than watching the clock continuously; it makes the final stretch easier to push through than staring at the number tick down.
Common uses
- Holding a plank for a full minute as a bodyweight core exercise.
- Running one round of box breathing (4-4-4-4 seconds) to reset before a stressful task.
- Rehearsing a 60-second elevator pitch to keep it tight enough for a real introduction.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the 1 Minute timer keep running if I switch tabs?
- Yes. The 1 Minute countdown is based on the real clock, so it stays accurate in the background and the alarm still rings when time is up.
- Will it make a sound when the time is up?
- Yes — a short alarm beep plays when the countdown reaches zero. Make sure your device isn't muted.
- How long should a plank hold be for a beginner?
- A beginner plank is commonly built up in 20 to 30 second holds, working toward one full minute. If a minute is too hard to hold with good form, break it into two or three shorter holds with brief rests rather than sagging through the full minute.
- How does box breathing work?
- Box breathing is four equal phases — inhale, hold, exhale, hold — each lasting the same count, often 4 seconds. One full round takes about 16 seconds, so a 1-minute timer covers roughly three to four rounds, enough to noticeably slow your heart rate.
