Ideal Weight Calculator
Estimate an ideal body weight from your height and sex. Four classic clinical formulas are shown — they differ slightly, so treat the range as a guide rather than a single target.
- Devine
- 75 kg
- Robinson
- 72,6 kg
- Miller
- 71,5 kg
- Hamwi
- 77,3 kg
Hoe het werkt
“Ideal body weight” formulas estimate a healthy weight from height alone. They were originally developed for medication dosing and are based on a reference weight at 5 feet (152.4 cm) plus an increment for each inch above that. This tool shows four of the most-cited formulas — Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi — which give slightly different figures.
Because they use only height and sex, they ignore build, muscle mass and body composition, so the result is a rough guide, not a personal target. A range across the four formulas is more meaningful than any single number.

- A 180 cm man is around 75 kg by the Devine formula.
- The four formulas give a range of a few kilograms.
- Formulas use only height and sex — not build or muscle.
Veelgestelde vragen
- What is ideal body weight?
- A weight estimated from height that formulas associate with good health. It originated in medicine for dosing and is a rough guide, not a strict goal.
- Why show several formulas?
- The Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi formulas differ slightly. Seeing the range is more informative than trusting one exact figure.
- Do they account for muscle?
- No. They use only height and sex, so a muscular person may healthily weigh more than the estimate suggests.
- Should I aim for this exactly?
- Treat it as a guide. Body composition, waist size and how you feel matter more than hitting a formula's number.
